Favourite Doctors continued - 6/1

As promised here is the rest of my favourite Doctors list

Number 6
Matt Smith - The 11th Doctor - 2010/????
Ok if putting Tennant 7th made people mad then I'm certain putting Matt 6th is going to make matters worse, though I will still stand by it. One of the main reasons that the 11th Doctor has beaten the 10th is because he is still currently The Doctor. However it comes down to more then that, Matt Smith has brought the stubborn ego of the Doctor back, the man who knows he is right and although he might sometimes miss the obvious is actually right to act so. With a brilliant tweed suit and cool bowtie he looks like a proffesor, which is exactly what a modern Doctor should look like. His strength is his knowledge not his sense of fashion. He also gets extra points because his Doctor has obviously had to follow the "holiest" of Doctors the 10th, and has recieved alot of undeserved hatred from 10 fans simply for that. So roll on 11, as I look forward to seeing more of his antics.

Number 5
Jon Pertwee - The 3rd Doctor - 1970/1974
Suave, elegant, cool and even deadly. Four words that can easily describe the 3rd Doc, Jon Pertwee's Doctor was the Bond of the Doctor Who. Banished to earth at the beginning of his incarnation the 3rd Doctor has to settle helping UNIT, and was also the first Doctor to face the Master (one of the characters most popular villians (I believe tied 2nd with Davros (Daleks being first of course))). Watching some Episodes you can tell that Pertwee is taking the role seriously. Everything the 3rd Doctor says is solid fact and his Doctor comes across as one of the most rational of them all.

Number 4
William Hartnell - The 1st Doctor - 1963/1966
"One day I shall come back, yes I shall come back". Oh Bill if only that was true...the first of the Doctors, THE DOCTOR if you will. Broadcasted in black and white he began travelling with only two school teachers and his granddaughter. The first Doctor was, and in my opinion still is one of the most mysterious incarnations. In the very first story we aren't even sure if we trust him, coming off as cold and uncarring (willing to kill in order to surivie) but eventually becoming a loving, heroic man who is now the same man Matt Smith is performing today. Without Mr Hartnell there wouldn't be Doctor Who.

Number 3
Tom Baker - The 4th Doctor - 1974/1981
Well it was no suprise to any Whovian he would be high on the list. With his massive scarf and love of jelly babies Tom Baker is the Doc everyone defines the role for, and its easy to see why as he played the timelord for 7 years. Do I really need to go any further as to why he's in my top 3?

Number 2
Patrick Troughton - The 2nd Doctor - 1966/1969
Now modern fans (one's who havent touched an old episode) might be saying "Oh no not another Black and white Doctor, why has he beaten 10", well I ask back "How could I not". Patrick Troughton not only was the first new Doctor who would have to carry the torch lit by William Hartnell, he was also the first to have to bring a new personality to the role. Not to mention the man is a joy to watch and you can tell that being a part of this programme was one of his crowning achievements in his life.

Number 1
Christopher Eccleston - The 9th Doctor - 2005
Ok now I'm guessing a lot of people are wondering "Why the 9th Doctor?" "Why did you choose him over 4 or 10?". Well its the oldest reason but is still the most valid...he was MY Doctor. When I began watching this brilliant show that has spanned for nearly 50 years it was Christopher Eccleston who was guiding me on that journey. He was my introduction to this great show, and with some fantasticly written episodes it was a great ride. He had everything that I believe should come out of the role, he was funny but serious, tragic but good natured. With his leather jacket, blue sonic screwdriver and coral themed TARDIS he was my gateway into the world of Who.
